Luke Ontiveros named new SMBSD superintendent

 

Santa Maria native Luke Ontiveros has been selected by the Board of Education as the new superintendent for the district. The board announced its decision at the April 13 school board meeting. The announcement was the culmination of months of seeking district and community input, interviews of the top candidates, and a visit by key district leaders to Mr. Ontiveros’ current district, Snowline Joint Unified School District. The board introduced and welcomed Mr. Ontiveros at the start of the board meeting.

Taylor’s fundraiser
Taylor School staff and students recently raised money and awareness for the fight against childhood cancer. The school raised $3,279 for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, an organization that funds childhood cancer research. Because the school's fundraising goal was reached, 6th grade teacher Mario DiCarlo, 1st and 2nd grade Special Education teacher Tim Rapson, 5th grade teacher Frankie Clifton and assistant principal Jillian Cota had their heads shaved at a schoolwide assembly by barbers from Sport Clips, which helped sponsor the school event.
